Bermel Business Systems Pty Ltd is a family owned company founded in 1977. The founder and Executive Chairman of the Company, Bern Heafey, had a career history in the office equipment industry.
In 1985 Bermel Business Systems released the German made Copytex high security magnetic stripe card system. By 1986 twelve of Australia's nineteen Universities had chosen the Copytex system for the libraries, coinciding with the opening of the Melbourne branch office.
With Copytex being an internationally distributed product, Bermel Business Systems is now the equal second largest Copytex distributor in the world.
In 1994 the product range was widened by an exclusive distribution agreement being signed with the Northern Ireland based Infineer Limited supplying a range of card solutions. In 2007 the product range was further added to with an exclusive Australasian agreement with Magna Carta from the Netherlands for the supply of an online chip card solution purpose built for the education market. In addition to an agreement with OpenTech services for "Time and Attendance" solutions. This means that between the four individual companies' products Bermel can now offer a complete spectrum of Access Control Systems embracing stand alone, on line and LAN/WAN opportunities. To compliment these products we have an in-house comprehensive full colour imaging and encoding ID card bureau.
The Melbourne office now boasts its own sales, secretarial, service and Software support staff. The company today employs 17 staff members, in addition to its subcontractors and dealers around the country.
The company's dedication to service, individual's needs and being able to offer "premium" products places it in a very stable financial and marketing position after 22 years.
Today with a multi million-dollar turnover the company supplies a wide range of organisations with a cost recovery solution, including Officeworks Australia wide. Public libraries using this system include the Canterbury City Libraries, Hobson's Bay Library Service, Moonee Valley Library Service and Yarra Plenty Library Service. In addition to these sites a growing number of educational institutions have chosen the Chip Card cashless payment solution, including James Cook University of Northern Queensland, Challenger TAFE, Methodist Ladies' College, Kew, The French School of Sydney, Canning Vale College and Marri Grove Primary School.
